How I started and how I got to where I'm at today.

In 2011, I discovered Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan while perusing one of my favorite blogs.  I was instantly intrigued. As someone who enjoys a DIY project of any kind, I knew I had to try the paint. I decided to go all in and ordered a can each of Chalk Paint® in Louis Blue, Old White, Chateau Grey and both the clear and dark waxes.  I painted my first piece the day I received the paint, and I was hooked. I knew this paint was something special. I wanted to be a part of making this product available to everyone.

Deciding that I had nothing to lose, I sent an email to Annie Sloan herself and asked what it would take to be a stockist in the Chicagoland area. Because of my perseverance and faith in the product, I became a Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan stockist. I founded Di Lucca Design and got to work.

The name of the company came from my father’s hometown in Italy in the hope of engaging the whole family in this endeavor. The company started out in a conference room (completely remodeled with Chalk Paint®) at a family company. From here, I hosted workshops, met customers, and painted.

In 2011, Di Lucca Design began stocking Chalk Paint® at Affordable Antiques and More in Naperville, IL. Just a year later, the Di Lucca Design flagship store was opened in my small hometown of Itasca, IL.

I like to think I was a visionary, who saw the beauty of transforming furniture without the fuss of striping, sanding or priming. A mom of three, one preparing to leave for college, one entering junior in high school, and one busy son in junior high, it was time for me to take my passion to the next level. I love all my customers and feel like I am their new best painting friend.

My family comes from a long line of entrepreneurs, so I'd like to say it is in my blood. My dad's mom who was a young widow, who came to this country from Italy with 4 small children and made money as a tailor. My grandma's mom owned a small grocery store in Chicago. She ran the store while raising 7 kids. My father, with help from his father-in-law, started working at a machinery moving company. He opened his own business, CML Movers and then went on to purchase O.H. Rodseth Machinery Movers and then established Casini Warehousing.

I started my Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan journey 8 years ago and have not looked back since. I often say that the stores are my happy place.

Di Lucca Design specializes in selling, using, and teaching about Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. Annie, a fine artist, developed the paint 27 years ago, and because it has low VOC’s and is environmentally friendly, you can paint anything, anywhere. The paint is so easy to use; it can be used by someone who has never painted before to a painting pro.

I started the company because I believed in Chalk Paint® and how it could change the way we decorate. I still feel that passion today. I encourage customers to get in touch with me if they have any questions during a project. They are not alone, and that empowers them.

Di Lucca Design is open for in-store shopping in Naperville and Itasca! We also ship daily and offer curbside pick-up in Itasca. Click here for store hours.

Thank you for your support. I am so grateful!
